Junior Developer

One-year contractAmsterdam, hybridProductivity experiment

School lessons ran 65 minutes, long after your attention had quietly given up somewhere around the fortieth. Offices inherited the same logic. Datagrove is looking for its first employee to test whether it can be done differently: a Junior Developer who takes part in a working model built on the idea that output and productivity should lead the way.

About Datagrove

Datagrove is a development and engineering agency in Amsterdam, founded in 2025 by Sion Coolwijk. We build websites, platforms, mobile apps and AI workflows for SMBs and scale-ups, with the speed of modern AI tools and the discipline of senior developers. We work from an office on the Herengracht, with a small fixed core and a network of entrepreneurial people around it.

This role is an experiment, and we would rather say so up front. The idea behind it is simple: good work does not scale linearly with the hours you spend staring at a screen. Research on the body clock shows that people in their twenties run two to three hours later than people in their forties. And a short afternoon nap measurably improves alertness and memory.

We are putting those insights into practice for a year. If it works, this is how Datagrove looks from now on. We are looking for someone who finds that interesting enough to figure out with us.

What you do

You are the first developer next to Sion, so everything you build reaches clients. One week you set up a platform from scratch, the next you build an AI workflow, or help build a mobile app.

  • Build client projects from first setup to going live.
  • Get the right guidance to become a better developer.
  • Make technical choices and then carry them out yourself.
  • Join client conversations and translate what is technically needed.
  • Think along on how we measure the experiment: what works, what does not, and why.

Who we are looking for

We are not looking for years of experience, we are looking for someone who loves to build and learns fast. You have the basics down and you are curious about every new AI tool. More importantly: you dare to just try things and take feedback on board to get better.

  • You prefer building full-stack applications, or are willing to learn.
  • You have experience with React, TypeScript, Supabase or other modern tooling.
  • You can work with git, or are willing to learn it.
  • You like working with Claude or ChatGPT every day.
  • You are critical at the right moments, but also a hard worker.

What we offer

We run this for a year, with the intention to extend it. If it works, this is how Datagrove looks from now on, and you will have helped prove it.

  • A market-rate salary.
  • You are judged on what you deliver, not on when you are online.
  • No fixed start time. Begin when you are sharp, even if that is eleven.
  • An afternoon nap is normal here, not something you have to explain.
  • Room to work out, run errands or just lie on the couch for a bit.
  • A seat at the table for the meetings that matter, close to the client.
  • A one-year contract with a chance of extension.
  • A desk on the Herengracht in Amsterdam.
